Following internal search processes, a new Mass General Brigham (MGB) chair of Orthopaedic Surgery has been named. Mitchel B. Harris, MD, has accepted the role, effective Jan. 1, 2025.

Brown, MD, president of academic medical centers for Mass General Brigham. “Our entire leadership team will continue to partner with Dr. Harris in his work to listen to and learn from both academic medical center departments and drive forward our work to become the most impactful, patient-focused and equitable academic healthcare system in the world.”
Currently serving as chair of Orthopaedic Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Harris has been a valued member of the MGB community for 21 years. He brings extensive experience as a clinician, educator and respected leader in various capacities across the system to this role.
“During his time as chair of Orthopaedic Surgery at Mass General, Dr. Harris has built trust among his teams and peers and has demonstrated his ability to build bridges across the system,” says Dr. Brown. “With his focus on building a positive culture and cross-department collaboration, he is poised to unite our Orthopaedics teams and advance our work in the field.”
