A new Mass General Brigham (MGB) chief development officer for academic medical centers has been named. Michael “Mike” McNally has accepted the role, effective March 31, 2025.

This appointment is part of MGB’s broader and ongoing administrative restructuring efforts to align operations across two academic medical centers, Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and support the development of disease-specific and patient-centered institutes. In this consolidated leadership role, Mike will be responsible for integrating and unifying the development teams into a single department. He will lead all aspects of the philanthropy program for academic medical centers, with a focus on enhancing and optimizing fundraising programs across the department’s business units.
Mike brings a wealth of experience to this role, having spent his entire career serving and advancing the missions of academic and healthcare organizations in Boston, most recently as associate vice president and dean of Development at Harvard University. In addition to experience across Harvard, Mike has led fundraising teams at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and knows the MGB community well, having served as vice president of development for Mass General from 2018 to 2023.
“Mike has a consistent track record of designing and executing comprehensive development programs and strategies that deliver exceptional results,” says David F. M. Brown, MD, president of academic medical centers at MGB. “As a leader, he is people-focused and passionate about developing high-performing teams. He is skilled at building authentic and trusting relationships while consistently seeking opportunities to innovate, leverage technology to improve performance and create efficiencies.”
