A Message from Our 2022 Co-Chairs,
Debbie Burke, RN, DNP, and David Louis, MD
Dear Colleagues,
As we have learned over the past two years, the power of community is immeasurable. As we reflect on our Mass General community and what it means to us, we think about the collective power of our employees as we work towards a common goal and our ability, TOGETHER, to meet any challenge and overcome any obstacle.
As we re-launch My Giving Helps: the MGH Fund + United Way employee campaign after an intentional pause, we hope you will consider joining us as we celebrate the collective power of community and the impact your giving and volunteerism has on fulfilling the greater Mass General mission to transform patient care, break new ground in research, trailblaze clinical education and build healthier communities both near and far.
If you aren’t yet familiar with My Giving Helps, this newsletter will act as a resource for you to learn more about how you can become involved, and the ways that your support positively impacts the Mass General community.
We are grateful for all that you give to Mass General and look forward to a year of re-connecting and celebrating YOU!
Sincerely,
Debbie Burke, RN, DNP

Celebrating our My Giving Helps Champion Volunteers

Firdosh Pathan
Senior Attending Pharmacist, 35 years at Mass General
I am involved with a lot of different programs at Mass General, one of them being a Champion for the My Giving Helps program. I am a Champion because I enjoy meeting people from across the hospital and giving back and the My Giving Helps program is a perfect way to do both. As a Muslim, philanthropy is a core value, and it gives my life so much purpose. Being able to put a smile on the face of a colleague and sharing with them why philanthropy at Mass General is so important is one of the main reasons why I love participating in the My Giving Helps: the MGH Fund + United Way employee campaign and giving back to the community.

Cheryl Brathwaite
Office Manager, Home Base, 13 years at Mass General
I became a My Giving Helps Champion after learning more about the program from my former boss in Radiation Oncology. My favorite part about being a Champion is talking with colleagues across the hospital. When people do not know about My Giving Helps it’s exciting to be able to educate them. Also, it is always fun giving away prizes! It is especially nice to have backing from leadership in my department who encourage me to volunteer and get involved in the causes that are important to me.

John Driscoll
Associate Director of Police, Security and Outside Services, 41 years at Mass General
I am a proud MGH employee of 41 years who believes in the MGH mission and thinks that by contributing to the hospital through the My Giving Helps program and the MGH Fund and United Way that monies are allocated toward specialty programs like homelessness and make a difference in many people’s lives. The money also goes to communities that are often underserved. I have volunteered to be a Champion for over a decade and enjoy the opportunity to encourage employees to participate in this laudable program. Many of us give to other causes but I feel that the causes that are financed by this fund are so vital and commendable to making disadvantaged lives better. You can’t get better than that.
