Youth Zone, a free youth program based at the Massachusetts General Hospital Revere HealthCare Center, recently received dozens of new instruments, including guitars, drums, software and equipment from Music Drives Us, the nonprofit organization founded by musician, entrepreneur and philanthropist Ernie Boch Jr.
Founded in 1997 to serve the children of Revere, Mass., Youth Zone provides a safe place for children and teens aged 9 to 17 to develop academically, socially and emotionally. It offers various educational, recreational and vocational programs, including music, as well as comprehensive medical services and community programming.
The donation was part of Music Drives Us’s ongoing effort to provide children throughout New England with access to quality music education and opportunities. The new instruments will allow MGH Youth Zone to replace old, damaged equipment and expand its music program to include a music club and daily lessons.
“Musical education is a crucial component of our programming and enables us to provide our young members with opportunities they would not be able to receive elsewhere,” said Youth Zone Program Manager Michael Lenson. “We’re incredibly grateful for this generous donation from Music Drives Us in support of our mission to create a place where youth of Revere can feel safe and supported.”
