Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) and the Analog Devices Foundation donated $500,000 to help Massachusetts General Hospital advance COVID-19 vaccine development and testing efforts. Margaret Seif, ADI Chief People Officer and Analog Devices Foundation Board Member, shares why they chose to support Mass General.
When Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) and the Analog Devices Foundation made a $500,000 donation in April to fund research at Mass General’s Vaccine & Immunotherapy Center (VIC), we invested because ADI wants to do its part to help find a cure for COVID-19. We are also extremely pleased to partner with a world-class research hospital right in our own backyard.
Within weeks of making our donation, VIC was able to expedite its work on both developing a vaccine and novel point-of-care testing technologies for COVID-19. As a result, the money directed to vaccine research is allowing Mass General to understand more about immunotherapy as they develop a vaccine. Concurrently, the funding for testing is helping the VIC identify where it can have the most impact by serving an area of the country that needs testing and offers opportunities for scientific research.
There is no better teammate in this fight than this prestigious medical research institution and we are thrilled to support their development of a vaccine…
In addition to directly supporting the VIC’s work through our financial gift, we’ve been working with center director Mark Poznansky MD, PhD, and his team to understand the limitations of the current testing and, as a result, why two COVID-related biosensing projects ADI is working on are so important.
Our partnership with Mass General has expanded into other areas as well. We are now engaged with the Healthcare Transformation Lab to evaluate our cardio-pulmonary monitoring platform. And, we introduced members of this lab to an ADI customer who is developing a wearable device that could be ideal for monitoring COVID-positive patients who are being sent home.
For those who aren’t familiar with ADI, we are a leading global high-performance analog technology company dedicated to solving the world’s toughest engineering challenges. Headquartered in metro Boston since our founding in 1965, the company employs 2,400 in Massachusetts and a total of 16,000 around the world.
The $500,000 donation came through the Analog Devices Foundation, which focuses on supporting organizations, initiatives and partnerships that advance its mission to engineer a more sustainable future. Through a variety of programs including matching community gifts, volunteering gifts, and community grants, the Foundation provides resources and monetary support to causes that advance research, education and initiatives focused on protecting and regenerating ecosystems, empowering people and their communities, and helping tackle societal challenges.
Analog Devices is proud to work with Mass General’s VIC as it works tirelessly to discover the testing solutions required to identify COVID-19 in individuals and the vaccines that will slow the spread of the virus. There is no better teammate in this fight than this prestigious medical research institution and we are thrilled to support their development of a vaccine as well as the application of sensing technology that tests and monitors COVID-19 patients.
