On December 31, 2024, The Campaign for Massachusetts General Hospital officially came to an end. Over the course of this historic seven-plus-year effort, our donors fueled the people, places and programs that set Mass General apart. From redefining care in critical disease areas like cancer, heart and neurology, to pushing the boundaries of biomedical science, this remarkable effort has fortified Mass General’s foundation and created the framework of a transformative new era in healthcare. We asked our Board of Trustees leadership what they’ll remember most from The Campaign for Mass General.

Jonathan Kraft: Mass General’s workforce steps up

“The Campaign came at a seminal moment in our history. For the more than two centuries, Mass General’s focus on clinical excellence and patient-focused care has never wavered — but we’ve never faced the financial and operating pressures we do now. Thankfully, our donors answered the call and showed us how expansive, generous and powerful the MGH community truly is. What I find most inspiring is that over a third of our workforce — people from every department of the hospital — supported the Campaign and are represented as part of the 280,000-plus individual donors. That’s unparalleled. It makes you realize why Mass General is so special and the envy of all other academic medical centers.”

Carl Martignetti: Setting the table for a historic Campaign

“It seems like only yesterday that this drive was first imagined, and our journey began. It started at a dinner in the home of my fellow co-chairs, Patti and Jonathan Kraft, in the fall of 2018. It was just a small group of us — our co-chairs and a few of the hospital’s closest friends and supporters — talking around the table, imagining what Mass General could achieve with greater resources. Little did we know that our discussion that night would grow to eventually become the largest campaign of any free-standing hospital in our nation’s history. It has been amazing to see the breadth of support we have received from our community. We thank all those who participated. It is inspiring to think how many will benefit from this collective effort.”

Diane Patrick: Global support and generosity

“For me, the Campaign demonstrated the breadth of the impact the talented and caring staff of Mass General have on so many people throughout the world. People from all 50 states and 97 countries donated to support our work and our mission. The generosity of so many will permit Mass General to continue providing world-class care to a broad diversity of patients, as well as advance the cutting-edge research that informs and underlies that care.”
