When Jenny Malatantis was diagnosed with cancer last year, she and her daughter Labrini were touched by the support of family and friends. But others helped, too. After Dan Smith of Strike Out Cancer learned that his favorite bank teller was undergoing treatment at Mass General, his nonprofit sent a generous supermarket gift card to Jenny.
“The kindness and good wishes of people like Dan and Strike Out Cancer’s President, Todd Rassinger (pictured left) contributed to my mother’s speedy recovery and positive attitude,” says Labrini.
Dedicated to strengthening the human bonds and daily resources that matter to a patient as much as clinical care, Strike Out Cancer holds fund-raisers at baseball parks throughout the U.S. Its Strike Out Cancer Days provide patients and their families with a day of fun rooting for a local team while raising money to aid patients and their families. Fans make donations for each strikeout thrown on game day. The funds help families with practical needs, such as meals or the costs of travel for treatment.
