The one hundred honoree: Sig Adler Lung Cancer Research Fund

by
Mass General Giving

Attorney Sig Adler specialized in medical malpractice defense and served as an advisor to doctors and healthcare providers. When Sig passed away in 2007, just nine months after being diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, his law partners and family established the Sig Adler Lung Cancer Research Fund.

To date, Adler, Cohen, Harvey, Wakeman & Guekguezian LLP and the Adler family, including his brother Lee and sister-in-law Lauren Kaufmann, have raised more than $200,000 to support groundbreaking research at the Mass General Cancer Center, where Sig received treatment. These funds have helped Mass General physician-scientists bring discoveries from the laboratory to the clinic to improve outcomes for patients with lung cancer. In one such major breakthrough, in 2009 Mass General became the first cancer center in the world to offer genetic screening of lung tumors as a routine test with immediate clinical implications.

The Sig Adler Lung Cancer Research Fund hosts an annual event called SigFest, underwritten by Adler, Cohen, Harvey, Wakeman & Guekguezian LLP, that features live music, a silent auction and raffle.

“The fund honors Sig’s distinguished legacy in the legal and healthcare communities and beyond,” says one nominator.
