Mass General Giving

In his exceptional attentiveness to the details of diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care, Sean Mullally, MD, medical oncologist, demonstrates a passion for his work that fuels hope and confidence in his patients.

As medical director of the Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Dr. Mullally has played a critical role in the expansion of cancer care in western Massachusetts. Patients now have local access to clinical trials, genetic screening and counseling, and the latest chemotherapy and radiation treatment protocols available at Mass General in Boston.

Dr. Mullally’s treatment encompasses the whole patient, not just the disease. From helping patients manage a new diagnosis to taking an active interest in their lives beyond cancer, Dr. Mullally becomes his patients’ unwavering and enthusiastic advocate. In the community, Dr. Mullally spends time educating area residents about cancer and sharing the need for prevention, early detection and treatment.

“Dr. Mullally’s encouragement and care were heartfelt every visit,” says Nancy Cook, a survivor of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. “My prognosis was good, but with his care, positive energy and enthusiasm, my experience with the disease was made just that much better. He was a shining star. The Pioneer Valley is so fortunate to have him as a leader in cancer care in the community.”
