Sally was only 9 years old when her mother, Sarah, died of ovarian cancer at age 41. To raise awareness of and support for ovarian cancer research, Sarah and Sally created “Sally’s Blooming Hope,” a fundraising effort through the sale of handmade bracelets and necklaces. Sally continued making jewelry after her mother’s passing, often recruiting friends and members of the Yarmouth community to help with the beadwork. Each beaded piece has a flower bead strung into the design, representing the hope that one day a cure will be found. Sally’s energy and determination, as she goes out into the community raising funds for Mass General cancer research by selling her bracelets and necklaces, is amazing. Now, at 14, she continues to honor her mother’s memory and to support the fight against ovarian cancer.
