The one hundred honoree: Ronald Neal, RT

by
Mass General Giving

Ronald Neal, RT, has a knack for gaining the trust of the children he treats at Mass General’s Francis H. Burr Proton Center.

As team leader and radiation therapist, Ron administers radiation to young patients who require anesthesia in advance of treatment. Most have brain or spinal cord tumors and come daily for up to eight weeks. With technical expertise that is second to none, Ron brings calm competence to the complexities of administering proton treatment to children.

His young patients have given him another title, “Captain Ron.” He captivates children and parents alike with his warmth, sly humor and kindness. Kids love Ron. They rush to join him at the treatment platform, where he transforms what could be an occasion of dread into an eagerly anticipated visit.

Ron’s coworkers value him, too. He is an expert radiation therapist, a team player and a magician with children.
