Bostonians Nancy and Richard (Rick) Kelleher have set their sights on finding a cure for breast cancer. They contribute generously to research at the Mass General Cancer Center and other hospitals with the potential to increase early detection and improve survival rates.
In 2008, Nancy was diagnosed with breast cancer. She credits breakthroughs in research for her early diagnosis, effective treatment and now cancer-free condition. Nancy has made it her business to find out how she can help other patients diagnosed with breast cancer achieve similar outcomes.
The parents of three grown daughters and a son, Nancy and her husband Rick share a passion for finding a cure. Working as national council members with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and other organizations on the front line of advancing breast cancer treatment, they have quickly become well-informed, strategic donors whose transformative gifts target the most promising research.
Their support extends beyond financial gifts. The principal and CEO of the Pyramid Hotel Group, Rick is property manager of the Boston Harbor Hotel at Rowes Wharf, which frequently hosts major fundraising events for breast cancer. When the couple received the 2011 Boston Humanitarian Award, they spoke of friends who had lost their battle with breast cancer. Rick said, “We are very close to finding a cure for this insidious disease.” Nancy added, “We need to do this for all of our daughters and granddaughters.”
