The one hundred honoree: Melvin Nessel

For more than 30 years, the Nessels were exceptionally generous donors to the Massachusetts General Hospital, sup­porting the Nessel Gene Therapy Center and important capital projects over the decades. In 1997, Bunny and Mel Nessel announced a commitment of $10 million to the hospital for support of its research, teaching and clinical cancer care pro­grams. In recognition of a gift of this historic magnitude, the hospital named the outpatient and inpatient cancer care facilities the Barbara and Melvin Nessel Cancer Services. Mel Nessel’s generous commitment to the Cancer Center stands as a testament to his philanthropic vision.
