For 31 years Mary Dempsey has been a valuable resource at the Central Maine Medical Center. She has been intimately involved in the creation and development of The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing. Following their mother’s diagnosis of ovarian cancer, a generous donation from Mary’s brother, Patrick, provided the initial funding for the center. Mary then worked to transform the center into a model of support, education and health promotion for the community.
As an assistant director and volunteer manager, Mary has played an integral role in managing and growing the Dempsey center’s volunteer program from three to 200 volunteers. She establishes and monitors policies and procedures for volunteer training and oversees volunteer-led programs. Mary is committed to continuing her own education to gain further knowledge of resources that may help the patients and families at the center.
Mary Dempsey exemplifies the mission of The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing through her hard work and dedication to providing the best possible services and resources for patients and families dealing with cancer.
