The one hundred honoree: Jerry Younger, MD

Mass General Giving

As a seven year patient of Jerry Younger, MD, medical oncologist at the Mass General Cancer Center, Lorraine Ward knows she has the right doctor on her team. “Dr. Younger has never failed to do what it takes to keep me going on this unpredictable cancer journey,” she says. “He does yeoman’s work with a quiet determination and faith and an insightful learnedness about his field — never moving too quickly or brusquely as we chart my treatment, always listening to my concerns and limits and suggesting how we might proceed.”

With decades of experience treating patients who are facing incredibly challenging cancer diagnoses, Dr. Younger’s talent for partnering with his patients is clear, and one of his most impressive achievements is striking the balance of professional skill with his engaging personality. Lorraine says, “His wide-ranging knowledge alone would be enough for me to respect and want to honor his work, but it is his human touch — his capacity to engage me (and I can only assume his other patients) with care and calm and lively interest that makes me know that Dr. Younger deserves to be honored.”
