Joseph Monahan III and his three sons support the palliative care research of Jennifer Temel, MD, through grants from the Joanne Hill Monahan Cancer Fund and Golf Fights Cancer.
The Monahans came to know Dr. Temel in November 2006. “Our wonderful mother, Joanne Monahan, was diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer,” says Jay Monahan. “Looking for a miracle, we went to the Mass General Cancer Center.
“Dr. Temel provided our mother with the very best treatment. Unfortunately, after a hard-fought battle, our mother succumbed to her disease on May 19, 2007,” says Brendan Monahan. “Fighting alongside us every step of the way, Dr. Temel gave us world-class medical care and guidance.”
“While never letting up in our battle, she also prepared us for the worst says,” Jusin Monahan. “As a specialist in end-of-life care, Dr. Temel made sure our mom spent her last weeks free of pain and at home with her family. Because of her, our mother passed away with the dignity and grace that characterized how she lived her life.”
