Our son, Tommy, is a fantastic student, exceptional athlete and a loving little boy. When he was diagnosed with cancer last March, his message to the world was, “Crush it!”
Oncology Social Worker Jennifer D’Alotto, LCSW, and her wonderful colleagues at the Francis H. Burr Proton Therapy Center at Mass General enabled Tommy to do just that.
After surgeons in Seattle removed Tommy’s tumor, they recommended proton beam radiation at Mass General, where our support, care and treatment were nothing short of spectacular.
Along with Tommy’s radiation oncologist, Torunn Yock, MD, his nurse, Rachel Bolton; and the cadre of therapists who took care of him every day, Jennifer helped Tommy beat cancer in mind, body and spirit.
Jennifer cared for our entire family during Tommy’s three months of treatment. She drew Tommy and his sisters Katie, age 9, and Sydney, age 6, into daily art, music and craft sessions. While making super cool duct-tape wallets surrounded by his family, Tommy felt normal again.
From helping us navigate reimbursement from the Washington State school system to arranging a precious “date day,” Jennifer took care of Tommy’s parents too.
