In 2000, Bruce Taylor’s son Alex was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Alex fully recovered with the help and expertise of the MassGeneral Hospital for Children Cancer Center physicians and caregivers. Taylor and his colleagues Bonnie Monahan, Greg Saltzberg, Nancy Bassett and Susan Ostrow at the Timberland Company in Stratham, New Hampshire, founded the Granite State Quest, a one-day fundraising bicycle ride dedicated to conquering childhood cancer. All the money raised goes to research at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children Cancer Center.
“My wife Laurie and I knew we wanted to give something back to the hospital,” says Taylor. “They helped Alex, and now we want to help them. From our experience with cancer, we realized that cancer in isolation is overwhelming, with a group it becomes bearable, and with a community it becomes a fight you believe you can win. The Granite State Quest helps to expand that community of support.”
