The Mass General Cancer Center is a complex enterprise with many moving parts. The center’s employees and patients rely on all these parts working in sync nonstop, every day. The person who keeps all the facets of the organization working smoothly is Elizabeth Souza, senior administrative director of Outpatient Operations for both the center’s Boston campus and Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers.
“Beth’s standards are extraordinarily high,” says David Ryan, MD, clinical director of the Cancer Center. “Quietly and steadily, she makes the patient experience a thousand times better than it would be without her.”
A true innovator, Beth was a driving force behind the Cancer Center’s transformation into a multidisciplinary disease center and a catalyst in developing the Danvers campus, which has become a model for community-based cancer care.
“So often, it’s the doctors and the nurses who get the credit for excellent patient care,” Dr. Ryan says. “Beth makes it possible for the doctors and nurses to do their work. She makes the Mass General Cancer Center operate on a level like no other.”
