Dr. Dahl has been a respected colleague at Mass General since 2001. In addition to his technical achievements and expertise as a surgeon, he oversees a parallel research effort investigating novel, minimally-invasive treatments for urologic cancers to achieve crucial long-term cancer control and quality of life. He is an accomplished contributor to academic medicine and valued innovator but to his patients, he is a compassionate caregiver.
“In May of 2008, I was diagnosed with cancer in both of my kidneys. Dr. Dahl didn’t have any openings in his schedule for a while, so he agreed to see me during his lunchtime. How awesome was that?,” says Cheryl Lawless.
“I remember the day of my first surgery, I was so afraid, and I was lying there on the stretcher, getting hooked up to everything. I was given medication to help me relax, but it wasn’t until Dr. Dahl came by and said something that made me laugh, that’s when I knew everything was going to be just fine. And it was!””
