With a deep, sincere interest in the outcome of every patient, Theodore Hong, MD, delivers outstanding clinical care while instilling confidence in those undergoing cancer treatments.

When Fred Lincoln was diagnosed with colon rectal cancer, within 24 hours he had a meeting set up with Dr. Hong. “He displayed so much confidence and caring that I knew right then that I would be cured,” says Fred. “I asked Dr. Hong how he knew he had the right markers for the radiation and he said ‘I never miss.’ What confidence. He was right.”

Dr. Hong is a radiation oncologist with a clinical focus in gastrointestinal malignancies and a research focus in clinical trials involving protons and novel biologic agents. As a clinical researcher, he’s the principal investigator of the Proton Program Project grant, an active researcher in the Federal Share Proton Research program, as well as the co-leader of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center Gastrointestinal Research Committee. Dr. Hong also serves as the principal investigator for more than 10 investigator-initiated trials, as well as two national studies.

As the director of the Gastrointestinal Radiation Oncology service at Mass General, he is responsible for the gastrointestinal education of the residents of the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program. In addition, as associate clinical director in Radiation Oncology, Dr. Hong plays a key role in decisions affecting clinic and workflow. Additionally, he has been a member of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization Executive Committee for the past five years.

Despite these many accomplishments, the most significant impact is the one that he has on his patients. Adds Fred: “My wife and family couldn’t believe his attitude and caring. He inspired us to get involved with charity work at Mass General.”
