The one hundred honoree: The Billy Burchard Foundation

by
Mass General Giving

A natural leader and gifted athlete with a knack for lifelong friendships, Billy Burchard brought his best to every endeavor, from founding a thriving business to coping with cancer.

In 2000, at age 43, Billy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Until his death in January 2006, Billy made the most of his time. He traveled with his wife Susan and their children Joe and Molly; continued coaching children’s baseball and football teams and mentoring young kids; and enjoyed his friends. Billy also participated in the clinical trials at Mass General Cancer Center, under the care of David P. Ryan, MD, and Carlos Fernández-del Castillo, MD.

In May 2007, Susan and some close friends founded the Billy Burchard Foundation to honor Billy by reducing the suffering of cancer patients and their families. The foundation funds research, sponsors a camp for children who have cancer, and provides financial assistance to families affected by cancer.
