The one hundred honoree: Susan Wornick

by
Mass General Giving

Melissa Cohen-Fyffe has been organizing the ESSCO-MGH Breast Cancer Research Fund benefit for more than 15 years. Ten years ago, she reached out to long-time Boston news anchor Susan Wornick to invite her to participate as the emcee and auctioneer. That was just the first of many times that Susan would prove to be a wonderful friend to ESSCO. In 2013, Susan emceed the event for the tenth time, and to date, has helped ESSCO raise more than $2 million for breast cancer research at the Mass General Cancer Center. She enthusiastically leads the live auction each year, selling off cars, plane rides, dinners — and even herself — all in an effort to engage the attendees, raise vital funds and keep the annual event fun and exciting.

“No matter what we ask of her, she always says, ‘Yes,’” jokes Melissa.

Not just a figurehead on the night of the event, she’s actively engaged year round with ESSCO, responding quickly to event organizers, giving advice and helping to plan a fantastic event each and every year. Says Melissa, “She is the busiest woman I know, and yet she finds a way to give freely of her time and energy.” Through Susan’s ambassadorship and friendship, she enables ESSCO to continue to fund key breast cancer research at the Mass General Cancer Center.
