Susan and Michael Schechter established the first research fund for the Mass General Breast Program and they continue to foster breast cancer research at Mass General. Their fund has supported numerous pilot studies and clinical trials that have improved treatment and survival for patients with breast cancer.
The Schechters have also supported training opportunities for a generation of young doctors and researchers at the Cancer Center, who have gone on to careers throughout the U.S. and as far away as Chile, England and Thailand.
“The generosity and friendship of the Schechters continue to inspire all of us who work in the Breast Center to aim high,” says Barbara L. Smith, MD, PhD, director of the Breast Program at Mass General. “We are grateful every day for all that the Schechters have done for our patients, for the hospital and for us.”
