The one hundred honoree: Rose M. Watson

Patients feel less apprehensive and alone when they are being welcomed by Rose Watson, a patient services coordinator at Mass General-North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers, Mass.

“I have been a patient for nine years,” writes Rosa Simmons. “Rose is always smiling and friendly and makes me and other patients feel better even on bad days. She inspires me.”

Rose’s compassion comes from her own first-hand battle with cancer. Another patient, Lisa Cavallaro, RN, who’d come to know Rose throughout her treatment, was surprised to see Rose on the survivor’s bus at the Cancer Center’s annual fundraising walk.

“From the start, Rose allayed my fears with her warmth,” writes Lisa. “I was diagnosed with malignant metastatic melanoma and my life changed that day. Fortunately, I had Rose on my team. Every visit she greeted me with a smile and could tell if I was having a bad or good day. Rose always knew the right words to say to me. Now I come for follow-up care and I look forward to seeing Rose’s smiling face.”
