From coordinating round-the-clock care to sharing a single, heartfelt hug, Nathaniel Lamkin, LICSW, ACHP-SW, eases the end-of-life journey for hundreds of cancer patients and their loved ones each year.

Nate takes a holistic approach to hospice and palliative care as director of Bereavement Services & Program Development at Care Dimensions, the largest not-for-profit hospice in Massachusetts. He takes into consideration the full spectrum of needs for pediatric and adult patients and their families. Nate oversees Care Dimensions’ Bertolon Center for Grief & Healing and serves on the advisory board of Camp Kesem, an overnight camp for children and adolescents who have a parent battling cancer or have lost a parent to the disease.

Nate works closely with patients, familes and caregives to identify how best he can support them. For some, it may be arranging for a few hours of relief from the bedside of a terminally ill loved one. For families of pediatric patients, it may be setting up counseling for siblings. Nate coordinates a broad range of services, from Reiki sessions to financial grants to assist with household expenses.

“Nate is truly a gift from the heavens,” says nominator Ashley Haseotes, president of One Mission. “He meets the needs of his families with an open heart. I am not sure there is anything Nate has not done, or will not do, to support families during their end of life journey.”
