The one hundred honoree: Moments House

by
Mass General Giving

With its warm, home-like atmosphere, Moments House embodies the caring, integrative support it offers to patients and families living with cancer in Berkshire County, Massachusetts.

Co-founded by mother and daughter team Alice and Danielle Trumbull, Moments House honors the example and memory of their friend, Linda Palivoda, who battled cancer for 11 years. Linda drew her strength from volunteering for others in the same situation, and Alice and Danielle carry on Linda’s legacy of smiles, hugs and encouragement.

Made up of volunteer cancer survivors and caregivers, Moments House provides guidance, a place to meet others going through the same trials, and a venue for classes and workshops. The nonprofit, funded primarily through donations, works with partners throughout the local community to provide programs and services free of charge.

Members, including spouses, children, siblings and friends, can avail themselves of the services of counselors, Reiki masters, massage therapists, cosmetologists, lawyers, medical professionals, acupuncturists, life coaches and many others. Moments House also often helps members with financial assistance during a time many face loss of income and uncovered medical expenses.

“Moments House is a beacon of light following a cancer diagnosis,” says nominator Fran Zurrin. “It is a source of comfort to patients, families and caregivers. The programs provide a loving, caring atmosphere of sharing and giving and are dedicated to making sure no one faces cancer alone.”
