The one hundred honoree: Marc Bussiere, Msc

by
Mass General Giving

Marc Bussiere, MSc, is the lead clinical physicist for Mass General’s Francis H. Burr Proton Therapy Center. In 2000, Marc transferred technology over from Harvard University’s Cyclotron Laboratory to the hospital. Marc maintains the proton machine and manages a team of five stereotactic physicists.

Under Marc’s leadership, life-saving stereotactic procedures are provided to hundreds of patients each year. He plans each patient’s treatment and explains the process to the patient and family.

“Patients always come first to Marc,” writes Jay Loeffler, MD, chief of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Mass General.

“Marc is a remarkable ‘can-do’ personality,” according to Dr. Loeffler. “His work goes unheralded because most of his efforts are behind the scenes. In my 25 years of practice as a radiation oncologist, I have never interacted with a professional of such talent, kindness and drive. My fellow radiation oncologists Paul Chapman, MD, Helen Shih, MD, and Kevin Oh, MD, share my great esteem for Marc and his profound contribution to the care of our patients.”
