The tireless devotion of Lorraine Drapek, DNP, FNP-BC, AOCNP, to her patients has made her an invaluable member of the Gastrointestinal Radiation Oncology service at Mass General.

“Lorraine is the heart and backbone of the GI Radiation Oncology service,” says radiation oncologist Jennifer Wo, MD. “She is without a doubt the glue that holds GI radiation oncology together,” adds Theodore Hong, MD. These are just some of the accolades that you will hear about Nurse Practitioner Lorraine Drapek. From colleagues to patients, it’s clear that Lorraine is the point person for patients receiving radiation for GI cancers. Through her many years of working with patients she’s been inspired by their courage and spirit, and that has driven her to help them complete their treatment with the highest quality of life possible.

Lorraine also has a specific interest in survivorship, and with Dr. Wo created the first sexual health clinic in Radiation Oncology. This clinic has initially started with women treated for GI or GYN cancers, but will gradually be expanding to other disease sites, as well as to men, in the coming year.

Above all, Lorraine’s mission is to simply work hard every day to improve the care and communication to cancer patients in her care. “Her commitment to multidisciplinary care makes for seamless care of her patients,” says Dr. Hong. Lorraine’s efforts are equally valued by her colleagues. Dr. Wo states it best: “I am lost without her.”
