Liliana Bordeianou, MD, is a cancer surgeon and dedicated colorectal specialist at Mass General’s Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery and Digestive Healthcare Center. She specializes in difficult, unusual and complicated surgical cases, many involving low-lying rectal cancers, advanced metastatic conditions or minimally invasive surgical techniques. She has also introduced a number of new techniques that improve outcomes, quicken recoveries and improve postoperative function and quality of life for patients.
Dr. Bordeianou’s surgical interests include sphincter preservation procedures for patients with rectal cancer, such as intersphincteric total mesorectal excision (TME) and transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM). These techniques maintain and improve patients’ continence and expected quality of life after surgery, leading to significantly higher rates of cure.
Dr. Bordeianou is also the founder and director of the MGH Pelvic Floor Disorders Service, which addresses incontinence, bowel dysfunction and associated issues in colorectal patients. The service provides these patients with biofeedback and associated surgical and medical treatments, thereby allowing them to maintain dignity, social and sexual function and self-respect.
