The one hundred honoree: Kailie Laflamme, LICSW

by
Mass General Giving

As a social worker for patients receiving outpatient treatment at the Mass General Cancer Center, Kailie Laflamme, LICSW, excels at helping her clients manage their anxieties as well as their transition to survivorship.

Kailie empowers patients, assisting them in crafting individual plans that become guideposts throughout treatment as well as future monitoring and care. Understanding the weight of uncertainty they bear during recovery and then their fears of recurrence, Kailie engages patients in building their emotional resilience.

A creative and resourceful social worker, Kailie and colleague Julie Berrett-Abebe, LICSW, co-facilitate a support group for patients currently in treatment and in the past, enlisting guest speakers on topics important to participants. Another program introduced by Kailie and Julie is an eight-week writing and mindfulness workshop for women afflicted with gynecological and breast cancers.

Kailie is also a gifted counselor who works with patients individually as they cope with a life-changing diagnosis. “Whenever I needed guidance or simply more information, Kailie went above and beyond with her kindness and attention to my situation,” writes one patient. “She did her job with skill, efficiency and a constant smile. My recovery went very smoothly, thanks to Kailie’s help.”
