The one hundred honoree: Julie Fund for Women’s Cancers

by
Mass General Giving

Wife and mother Julie Paige McAvinn passed away at age 40, three months after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer. As she fought her illness, she told her husband, Peter, “We must do something to help other people faced with this terrible situation.”

The Julie Fund, established in 2004 and led by Peter, successfully fulfills Julie’s dream of helping other women with cancer meet new, often daunting, financial demands as they undergo treatment. To date, through its annual gala, walkathon and ongoing outreach efforts, the Fund has raised more than $600,000 to benefit Cancer Center research, patient and family support, and educational programs for health professionals and the general public.
