The one hundred honoree: Jennifer Powers, NP

by
Mass General Giving

Jennifer Powers, NP, wins the highest accolades from her colleagues in the Head and Neck Program in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Mass General, with one even dubbing her the department’s “nurse practitioner rock star.”

Patients with head and neck cancers are often acutely ill and require complex supportive care. Jennifer masterfully handles intricate symptom management, dispensing expert medical treatment along with patience, kindness and compassion. Widely regarded as the “go-to” person for her quick dispatch and diverse capabilities, on a daily basis she fields innumerable emails and phone calls, coordinates care with Medical Oncology and steps in wherever needed.

“As a nurse in the Head and Neck Program, I work closely with the nurse practitioners for assistance in triaging patient needs,” says one nominator. “Jen is always accessible and supportive.”

“No matter how busy our day is or what events precede it, Jen always enters the exam room with a cheerful, ‘Well, hello!’ and a smile,” says Paul Busse, MD, PhD, clinical director, Radiation Oncology, and director, Head and Neck Service. “She brings with her genuine concern, a wealth of knowledge, clinical ability and good judgment. The fact that she makes my clinical work easier is less important than the assurances she gives to our patients that she is there for them at any time.”
