As the leader of the inpatient team at North Shore Medical Center Salem Hospital and a hematology/oncology physician at the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center, James Weitzman, MD, ensures patients living north of Boston receive the highest quality care close to home. Dr. Weitzman has been pivotal in helping to combine the talent and expertise of physicians from the North Shore Medical Center with those from the Mass General Cancer Center.

“Over the years, Dr. Weitzman has assumed many leadership roles at the North Shore Medical Center,” says Jean Treacy, NP. “His approachable demeanor and direct approach makes him a wonderful advocate for both patients and staff.

“As a clinician, the care he gives both patients and families is unparalleled and more than anything he listens to them. He has been known to call patients on his way home to check on them. Dr. Weitzman embodies all the characteristics that you would want in an oncology physician.”

Patient Andrea Lane experienced Dr. Weitzman’s warmth firsthand: “I had never been in a hospital until I was 67. Once Dr. Weitzman arrived in the ER to see me, I knew immediately that I was in the right place with the right doctor. This was the beginning of a wonderful friendship. Everything about him is just great! He has a gift that makes you feel immediately calm. He has always been available for me anytime I needed him.

In June 2015, Dr. Weitzman will be bringing his talents to Mass General West, as clinical director of the new satellite offices in Waltham. Andrea plans to remain a patient: “It will be a longer drive for me but I will go anywhere he is for my care.”
