The one hundred honoree: Hyundai Hope on Wheels

by
Mass General Giving

Hyundai Hope on Wheels began as a small group of New England Hyundai car dealers, led by Tom O’Brien, supporting the fight against pediatric cancer through the Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Today, Hyundai Motor America and more than 800 dealers across the U.S. donate $14 to Hope on Wheels every time a new vehicle is sold.

Since 1998, Hope on Wheels has awarded $47 million to Children’s Oncology Group member institutions for pediatric cancer research and innovative programmatic initiatives that improve patient care. Hope on Wheels has supported the efforts of two MassGeneral Hospital for Children Cancer Center doctors to date: David Sweetser, MD, PhD, and his acute myeloid leukemia research and the Long-Term Follow-Up Clinic run by Mary Huang, MD.

In 2011, Hope on Wheels launched its largest single year donation effort to date, donating a total of $20 million, and by the end of this year, Hope on Wheels will have committed more than $57 million to the cause.
