The one hundred honoree: Honor O’Hara

by
Mass General Giving

The gynecologic oncology team at the Mass General Cancer Center knows they can rely on Honor O’Hara to get the job done right every time—dependability they call “priceless.”

The team’s patient service coordinator, Honor combines just the right amounts of resourcefulness, flexibility, know-how and humor to keep the hectic office running smoothly. Daily, she juggles a myriad of tasks that include, but are not limited to: scheduling patient appointments, setting up diagnostic tests, obtaining referrals, tracking down patient records and responding to countless patient and physician requests. Quiet and diligent, Honor comes in early, stays late and works weekends.

Honor received the 2015 Service Excellence Award for Dedication to the Patient Experience for the kind of outstanding support patient Cynthia Fishman Lefkowitz describes in her nomination: “Honor is always so accommodating and helpful, and I truly cherish that she has been there at Mass General to help guide me. Not to mention her wonderful candy jar that I raided often and the wonderfully funny and distracting comics posted on the walls of her office to help you smile.”

“Honor picks up the pieces of my clinic and smoothes them into flawless efficiency,” says Richard Penson, MD, MCRP, the clinical director of Medical Gynecologic Oncology. “She anticipates, negotiates, translates the indecipherable, conquers the impossible, tells the truth, and inspires the team. Honor is essential.”
