For children undergoing chemotherapy, a Hero Package from Gamerosity helps to ease the burden of the most difficult time in their lives.
The idea for Gamerosity began in 2011, when founder Manny Munoz gave a young boy named Michael an XBox 360. Manny is a childhood cancer survivor himself and received a Gameboy Color when he was diagnosed at age 15. Knowing how the Gameboy helped his long hospital stays and treatment, Manny wanted to provide other children with similar relief. A few years later, Gamerosity was launched.
The organization is based on “crowdfunded compassion,” tapping into community support that nominates a child and then fully funds each Hero Package. These packages include a backpack, t-shirt and cape printed with the Hero theme, plus comic books, sunglasses, headphones, an iPad, iTunes gift card and more. To date, more than 400 of these Hero Packages have been sent to children across the United States. The goal is not to cure cancer. It’s to be there for the little heroes while they fight the biggest fight of their life.
Gamerosity describes its impact on the children: “We’re reconnecting them to their world, a world that’s been turned upside-down from chemo, harsh treatments and crummy days. We want kids to be kids, they deserve it, and this is one way of doing that.”
