The one hundred honoree: Expect Miracles Foundation – Financial Services Against Cancer

In 1995, financial executive Frank Strauss’ mother was diagnosed with leukemia and given a one-in-three chance of survival. That same year, Frank became a father and shared, “It was a defining experience for me to visit an oncology ward and see children undergoing treatment. As a new dad, I couldn’t help but think ‘how would I handle having a child with cancer?’” That year he organized a golf outing named “The Strauss Open,” raising $6,000 to support the fight against cancer. The financial community supported the foundation he started, which would become one of the leading cancer charities within the national financial services industry.

Expect Miracles Foundation has raised more than $8 million through its events and programs, including the Expect Miracles East and West Coast Golf Classics, Expect Miracles Wine & Spirits Charity Event and the Miracle Maker Leadership Council. In addition, the foundation is committed to recognizing individuals and firms within the financial community for their outstanding commitment to fight cancer through the Expect Miracles Awards. For the past three years, the foundation has invited adolescents affected by cancer to attend a kids’ golf clinic to escape the daily rigors of treatment. Foundation proceeds benefit patient care initiatives nationwide and cutting-edge cancer research at Dana-Farber.
