In a world that has become so cold, so sterile, so matter-of-fact, Effi maintains the human factor. Effi epitomizes what a doctor should be. He gives so much to his patients and their families. His hope and his positive spirit are contagious, and he has changed our family for the better. Cancer is a dark and frightful journey without many answers. He has been our guide, our compass through these tough three years. He has helped us brace for the bumps in the road. He has been with us during the good times, and he has helped us cope with the hard times. He is the most human, caring doctor we have ever met at Massachusetts General Hospital. It is with great pride, love and respect that we nominate Effi for this honor.
