Diane Stokes is co-founder of Oncology Rehab Partners, LLC, which developed the STAR (Survivorship Training and Rehabilitation) Program Certification that provides a best practices, evidence-based and reimbursable model for multidisciplinary cancer rehabilitation survivorship-care. She founded the company with her friend and neighbor Julie Silver, MD, after Dr. Silver had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The endeavor was initiated after a visit by Diane to Dr. Silver, when Diane stated, “There must be more that we can do to help cancer survivors heal.” According to Dr. Silver, “As a triathlete, triathlon coach and former middle school teacher, Diane is particularly skilled at encouraging people who are struggling.”

Out of this desire to help sprung the STAR Program Certification, which is anticipated to be in more than 100 sites throughout the United States by the end of 2012. At these sites, cancer survivors can receive care from STAR-certified multidisciplinary teams.

“Diane has been instrumental in helping hospitals, cancer centers and oncology group practices implement research- based rehabilitation services for cancer survivors throughout the cancer continuum,” according to Dr. Silver. “She has demonstrated unwavering commitment to advancing survivorship care.”
