The one hundred honoree: David J. Martini, MD

Mass General Giving

For more than 30 years, David Martini, MD, has been providing care to patients with breast cancer at the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers, Mass.

His patients revere Dr. Martini as a calm and trusted guide through the harrowing uncertainties of diagnosis and treatment. Louise Odachowski is among the many patients who value Dr. Martini’s wisdom and compassion, as well as his depth of medical expertise.

In January 2010, Louise was diagnosed with stage IIIA breast cancer and Dr. Martini was the first physician to talk with her about treatment. “He spent inordinate amounts of time with me discussing options and helped me come to a decision,” says Louise. “He performed a modified radical mastectomy and helped me navigate my way through the most challenging year of my life.

“We were a team,” Louise continues. “Whatever complications arose, he listened to my concerns and treated me with the utmost consideration. I feel blessed to have been in Dr. Martini’s care.”
