Donor Story

The one hundred honoree: Colin Stone

by
Mass General Giving

Colin Stone has a special donor profile to Mass General. Neither he nor a family member has received medical care at Mass General. In fact, he does not live in Massachusetts or the United States. Colin resides in England, where he is a successful businessman, father and philanthropist with a desire to accelerate the fight against cancer. Colin is inspired by the pace of medical innovation in the U.S. and has confidence in Mass General as one of the top research institutions in the world.

Since 2002, Colin has made two major investments in hepatobiliary cancer research at Mass General. Colin’s startup funding triggered larger grants for clinical trials and a tissue bank. His foresight and generosity is advancing an arena of cancer research that is usually underfunded but promises far-reaching impact on many types of cancer.

“I hope that at some point soon Colin will tour our lab and see first hand what his gifts have done for cancer research,” says Kenneth Tanabe, MD, chief of the Mass General Division of Surgical Oncology.
