The one hundred honoree: Carol Hamilton

Carol Hamilton, president of L’Oréal Luxe USA, has made helping women look and feel their best her career. But she has made helping women overcome cancer her life’s work.

In 1997, Carol spearheaded a partnership between L’Oréal Paris, the world’s largest cosmetics company, and the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF), the largest U.S. charity funding ovarian cancer research. Since that time, Carol has helped raise more than $13 million on behalf of the OCRF.

Carol also supports the Look Good Feel Better® campaign, a collaboration of the Personal Care Products Council Foundation, the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the Professional Beauty Association. The free, nationwide program helps boost cancer patients’ self-esteem and confidence through lessons on coping with appearance-related side effects of the disease.

“The simple pleasure of ‘being normal’ for two hours, combined with the impact of being able to reverse the toll of cancer through beauty routines, is an honor every one of us in the beauty industry should be a part of,” says Carol.

In 2012, the American Cancer Society and the Personal Care Products Council Foundation recognized Carol for her work with OCRF and the Look Good Feel Better® campaign. She has also received the Cancer Research Institute’s Oliver R. Grace Award for Distinguished Service in Advancing Cancer Research and serves on the OCRF Board of Governors.

One of the beauty industries most respected executives, Carol stands behind patients and families from around the world – especially her dear friend and colleague Tim Quinn, a cancer survivor and true friend of the Mass General Cancer Center.
