Patients and colleagues alike revere Bruce Chabner, MD, who served as chief of Hematology/Oncology at the Mass General Cancer Center from 1995 to 2010 and currently serves as director of Clinical Research. His leadership as a clinician, scientist, educator and mentor has helped develop the center into one of the world’s foremost institutions for cancer care and research.
In November 2010, Mass General recognized Dr. Chabner with a named chair, one of the highest honors bestowed upon a physician. The Bruce A. Chabner Chair in Hematology Oncology honors the pioneering contributions of Dr. Chabner, an internationally renowned scientist as well as a dedicated and compassionate healer.
Dr. Chabner is a member of the National Cancer Advisory Board of the National Cancer Institute, where he spent 26 years, including 13 years as director of the Division of Cancer Research. He led the development of Taxol as well as high-dose chemotherapy regimens and now-standard therapies for lymphoma.
