The one hundred honoree: Bonnie Pfeifer Evans

by
Mass General Giving

Bonnie Pfeifer Evans chairs the Charles Evans Foundation, founded by her late husband. The foundation has a longstanding record of supporting humanitarian causes, including health care. Since 2005, the Evans Foundation has become a major supporter of prostate cancer research, in partnership with the Prostate Cancer Foundation. The Evans Foundation made a $2.5 million, multi-year challenge award to the Mass General Cancer Center to fast forward research and development of circulating tumor cell technology and its application to prostate cancer. This gift has singularly enabled major strides by a multidisciplinary Mass General team. The research team has initiated clinical trials in early localized prostate cancer and is developing a biomarker for hormonal response in advanced disease called the “Evans Test.”

A committed and energetic philanthropist, Bonnie has been recognized widely for her humanitarian contributions. She received the Northern Lights Alternatives’ “Vision Award,” Little Flower Children’s Services of New York’s “Recognition Award,” Youth EnterNet’s “Issues Awareness Award,” the “Manhattan Magazine Award” and Edwin Gould Services for Children & Families’ “Humanitarian Award.” She also was cited by the White House for philanthropic contributions to HIV- and AIDS-related causes.
