The one hundred honoree: Bette Corbett

Bette Corbett has been battling cancer on and off for almost a decade. After her diagnosis eight years ago, Bette underwent treatment and her cancer went into remission. But three years ago, she had a relapse and resumed chemotherapy at the Mass General Cancer Center.

When Bette arrived to begin the new round of treatment, her infusion nurse, Elizabeth Favulli, RN, recalls, “Bette did not appear frightened. She was smiling and had a camera with her. Her daughter took a photo of us.”

Bette has sustained her bright spirit since that day, bringing her positive energy and optimism to other patients while undergoing her own arduous chemotherapy regimen. “Our unit is a brighter place when Bette is around,” says Elizabeth.

At the same time, Bette has been a devoted caregiver to her elderly parents. She also advocates on behalf of ovarian cancer awareness and supports medical missions to treat children with cleft lips and palates.

“Bette is kind, generous and full of life,” says Elizabeth. “She is an inspiration to everyone she meets.”
