The one hundred honoree: Barry Lipsett & Charles River Apparel

by
Mass General Giving

Charles River Apparel, a family-owned performance apparel company, is an avid supporter of activities that benefit breast cancer patients. The Massachusetts-based clothing manufacturer and distributor donates a portion of sales through its “Be Pink Proud” program to a variety of nonprofit breast cancer research and support organizations.

These programs include the Wellness Warriors, which introduces cancer patients and survivors to the healing joys of river paddling. Charles River Apparel president & owner Barry Lipsett donated race shirts and high performance rain jackets to the Wellness Warriors, joined its board of directors, offers the group marketing assistance and most recently purchased a boat for the group.

Barry’s generous support of such programs stems from personal losses; his mother, his sister and a long-time employee all passed away from cancer.

He and his company also make direct and in-kind donations to a host of local and national nonprofits that advance research and patient care, including the Needham Relay for Life (American Cancer Society), the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Chicago’s Recovery on Water (ROW). Every year, Barry also takes part in the Pan-Mass Challenge to raise funds in honor of the loved ones he has lost to cancer.
