The one hundred honoree: Andrew L. Warshaw, MD

by
Mass General Giving

As a young man, Richard Pildis lost his mother and his first wife to cancer. He remarried and raised a large and loving family. Two years ago, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Physician friends recommended Andrew Warshaw, MD, then surgeon-in-chief and chairman of the Department of Surgery

at Mass General.

Right away, Richard was reassured by Dr. Warshaw’s confidence and warmth. “Dr. Warshaw met with me, two of my six children, my wife, my cousin and a dear family friend. He told us that my cancer was operable and soothed our fears. I’ve never met anyone with such devotion, energy and strength of purpose.”

After surgically removing Richard’s tumor, Dr. Warshaw guided his post-operative care.

“I am alive today because of Dr. Warshaw, his medical team and the wonderful people at Mass General,” says Richard. “He is one of the most compassionate and caring physicians I have ever known. With his charm and respect, Dr. Warshaw makes you believe that no matter what happens you are in the best possible hands.”
