The one hundred honoree: Alice T. Lynch

by
Mass General Giving

For more than a decade, Alice T. Lynch and her late husband Edmund have been generous donors and promoters of cancer research.

While a patient of Jeffrey A. Gelfand, MD, at Tufts Medical Center, Alice made a major gift to endow the chair of its cancer center. When Dr. Gelfand came to Mass General, Alice made a significant gift to fund the hospital’s gynecologic oncology tumor bank with the establishment of the Edmund C. Lynch, Jr. Fund for Cancer Research.

She also supported Dr. Gelfand’s work developing an ovarian cancer vaccine. Now undergoing proof-of-principle experiments at Mass General in a mouse model of ovarian cancer, the vaccine demonstrates potent induction of immunity against ovarian cancer. All the while, Alice has encouraged others to make similar donations by holding a series of dinners and fund-raisers.

“Mrs. Lynch has made this vaccine possible,” says Dr. Gelfand.
