It is an exciting time at Massachusetts General Hospital. As a leading hospital within Mass General Brigham, Mass General is continuing its efforts to align with the strategic goals and vision of our system. Our organizational structure and the associated responsibilities of our leaders are designed to preserve Mass General’s strength and “specialness,” adhere to changes in governance implemented across Mass General Brigham and inform and shape the direction of the system. With this in mind, we have made several strategic leadership changes.

Greg Pauly has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer for Mass General. He will also continue to serve as chief operating officer for the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization (MGPO) and oversee all clinical departments. Sally Mason Boemer has been named executive vice president and chief administrative officer at Mass General and will maintain her role as the hospital’s chief financial officer, but will also take on new responsibilities for functions previously overseen by O’Neil Britton, MD. Last month, Dr. Britton shifted from his role as senior vice president and chief medical officer for Mass General to a new role as associate chief operating officer and senior vice president at Mass General Brigham.

Ann Prestipino will continue overseeing and leading Mass General’s COVID-19 response and recovery, Emergency Preparedness and planning initiatives for Mass General and the MGPO. In addition, she is now responsible for oversight of the hospital’s education program, a role that Dr. Britton had held until last month. Marcela del Carmen, MD, interim president of the MGPO, has taken on the professional staff duties previously held by Dr. Britton, and Joe Betancourt, MD, senior vice president for Equity and Community Health, has taken over executive oversight of the Mass General Center for Global Health.

Our hospital is in a time of enormous and exciting change — changes in leadership, changes in structure, changes in relationships — and we want you, our donors, to know that together, we are laying the foundation to ensure that Mass General remains a vibrant and strong health care resource in Mass General Brigham for the patients we serve now and well into the future.

All my best,

Peter L. Slavin, MD
